FAQs
The placement of external scaffolding anywhere on the estate will require a licence, whether or not it rests only on the demise of a property or on part of the CEPC managed pavements, gardens or roadways.
If a scaffolding sits entirely in the demise of a property and causes no impact on CEPC land, only an administration fee is chargeable, but parking suspensions for the scaffolding lorry must be paid for and arranged at the time of issuing the licence.
If any part of the scaffolding will rest on CEPC managed property an additional weekly fee is also payable.
A refundable deposit to cover damage to CEPC managed property may be required.
If any part of scaffolding is to be located within a CEPC managed garden or access through a CEPC managed garden is required, an additional refundable damage deposit will be payable.
Scaffolding specifically erected for works to be carried out as part of The Crown Estate’s Quinquennial Painting programme (lessees 5 yearly painting) are only subject to CEPC administration fees, parking fees and any deposit – no weekly fee is payable.
PLEASE NOTE: All contractors will be required to submit a Risk Assessment and Method Statement, along with diagrams of how the scaffold is intended to rest, which must be approved before any licence can be issued. We recommend allowing at least two weeks for obtaining a licence.
The placement of skips and/or wait and load skips on the estate is restricted and you need to seek the advice of the CEPC before bringing one on-site. If a licence is granted appropriate timber or boards must always be used to protect the road surface and must be included within hoarding.
Parking suspension for a wait and load may be required. This will be reviewed upon your request.
Any hoarding and fencing of a work site in order to make it safe and secure will require a licence.
Many parts of the estate have narrow access roads and most areas have underground vaults beneath the pavements. Many of the roadways are not suitable for very heavy vehicles because of their age and construction. As a result, careful consideration is required before bringing on-site any crane, hoist, platform lift or cherry picker. Advice and permission is required from the CEPC and a licence is required.
Any works using hot bitumen or asphalt and the associated equipment will require a licence.
The placement of the facilities associated with the safe removal of asbestos or other hazardous materials will require both permission from the CEPC and a licence.
Some areas of the estate are not suitable for the operation of Cherry Pickers, so if you want to bring one onto the estate, please contact the CEPC for a discussion and to make the necessary arrangements.
If you are bringing a large vehicle on-site it may need special arrangements to park and manoeuvre. Please contact the CEPC to discuss your requirements. Special parking arrangements can be reserved on a daily basis equivalent to a 3 parking bay suspension.
If you need to open up the CEPC’s pavements or roadways to install services please seek advice from the CEPC and arrange a licence.
The placement of site huts or welfare facilities will require both permission from the CEPC and a licence.
